本项目位于首尔东桥洞，是为大学入学考试备考而设的音乐学院。音乐学院由无数小房间构成。为了让学费维持在可承受的范围内，就必须尽可能多地设置练习室——这种压力几乎把公共空间挤压殆尽。大多数学院都被走廊和房间塞得密不透风，学生们无处停留、聚集或交谈。这个项目的首要挑战，是在不牺牲任何一间练习室的前提下，创造出一个大厅。

This building is a music academy for college entrance preparation, located in Donggyo-dong, Seoul. A music academy is made up of countless small rooms. Keeping tuition fees affordable demands maximizing the number of practice rooms — and that pressure leaves almost nothing for shared space. Most academies are packed wall to wall with corridors and rooms, with no place for students to stop, gather, and talk. The first challenge of this project was to create a hall without sacrificing a single practice room.

建筑的组织轴线被设定为对角线方向，通过偏移走廊的交汇点，切出了大厅空间。由于这些大厅是从练习室自身的剩余区域中“挖掘”出来的，因此没有损失任何一间练习室。这种空间逻辑直接延伸至结构体系，最终，内部的对角轴线也成为建筑外部表皮生成的原理。

The building’s organizational axis was set diagonally, and halls were carved out by offsetting the points where corridors intersect. Because these halls were recovered from residual area within the lesson rooms themselves, no practice rooms had to be cut. This spatial logic carried directly into the structural system, and the interior axis ultimately became the generative  principle behind the building’s exterior skin.

窗户对于音乐学院而言则是另一个根本性的难题。为防止声音外泄，窗户必须控制在最少数量——这通常会导致室内昏暗压抑。此处的解决方案是多间练习室共用一个开窗。整座建筑只有三个开窗，却由十间练习室共享。

Windows present another fundamental challenge for a music academy. To prevent sound from leaking out, windows are kept to a minimum — which typically leaves the interior dim and oppressive. The solution here was to have multiple practice rooms share a single opening. The building has three openings, shared across ten practice rooms.

建筑外立面覆以铝板，这是韩国建造业中最常见的材料。不过，这些铝板并未平整铺设，而是以三维方式拼接，赋予立面视觉上的厚重感与体积感。铝板连续包裹多个面，将所有边缘完全隐藏。随着天气变化，铝板反射的光线颜色也会发生变化。折叠板面之间投下的阴影四处散射、漫开，营造出一种富有氛围感的、近乎幻觉的气质——这是该项目中最迷人的一点。

The exterior is clad in aluminum panels, a material ubiquitous in Korean construction. Rather than applying the panels flat, they were composed three-dimensionally to give the facade visual weight and volume. The panels wrap continuously across multiple faces, keeping the edges fully concealed. As weather changes, the color of light reflected off the panels shifts. Shadows cast between the folded panel surfaces scatter and diffuse, producing an atmospheric, almost hallucinatory quality — one of the most compelling aspects of the project.

建筑紧邻弘大，首尔最密集、最混乱的商业区之一。在这样的环境中，无数的门连接着内外，招牌和过大的窗户将内部信息推向街道。本项目质疑了那种太容易被视作理所当然的假设——即建筑与城市的连通性天然就是好的。

The building sits near Hongdae, one of Seoul’s densest and most chaotic commercial districts. In this context, countless doors link inside to outside, and signage and oversized windows push interior information outward onto the street. This project questions the assumption — too often taken for granted — that connectivity between architecture and the city is inherently good.

当取悦顾客的商业冲动与建筑的连通性混为一谈时，城市便失去了连贯性。在这座建筑中，它没有做出任何欢迎或邀请的姿态。它不模仿周围环境，也不向街道袒露自己的内部生活。

When the commercial impulse to seduce customers is conflated  with architectural connectivity, the city loses coherence. In this project, the building makes no gesture of welcome or invitation. It does not mirror its surroundings, and it does not expose its interior life to the street.

它提供的，是更实在的东西：对过往行人而言真正的用处。最重要的是，它提供了这条街道最匮乏的一样东西——喘息的空间。底层的架空柱为人们遮雨挡阳。它将人行道拓宽到超越周围建筑所允许的范围。那简洁的、能散射雾气的体量，正是刻意设计，以便在周遭杂乱无章的建筑群中被解读为一片“虚空”。

What it offers instead is something more concrete: actual usefulness to the people passing by. Most urgently, it offers the one thing this street lacks most — breathing room. The ground-floor piloti provides shelter from rain and shade from the sun. It widens the pedestrian path beyond what the surrounding buildings allow. The simple, haze-scattering mass is deliberately designed to read as a void among the cluttered buildings around it.

“3D 大楼”这个名字正是源于这一意图。“3D”一词让人联想到非现实的虚拟空间——而它首先唤起的，并非存在于那个空间中的物体，而是虚空本身。

The name “3D Building” follows from this intention. The word “3D” conjures an unreal, virtual space — and what it brings to mind first is not the objects that exist within that space, but the emptiness itself.
